Hvorfor søkte du på NorPalSawa 2017?

Jeg hadde tenkt å søke om deltakelse i prosjektet allerede i 2016, men lot da være fordi jeg var skeptisk til å reise ned til et område som regnes som en «konfliktsone». Imidlertid angret jeg bittert kort tid etter søknadsfristen… Jeg leste meg litt opp på Israel-Palestina-konflikten og undersøkte nærmere hva som faktisk ble skrevet om situasjonen der nede, og jeg fant flere andre reiseblogger i tillegg til beretningene fra NorPal-Sawa sin hjemmeside. Det virket svært spennende å dra ned da prosjektet er en pakke med både kulturelle, faglige og sosiale opplevelser. Jeg kan ikke tenke meg noen bedre måte å oppleve Vestbredden på, i tillegg til at jeg fikk hospitere ved sykehus og se tilstander og møte pasienter en ikke vil komme til å treffe i Norge på grunn av store forskjeller i ressurstilgjengelighet. 

Hva husker du best fra oppholdet?

Det jeg husker best er måten vi alltid ble tatt i mot med åpne armer. Våre palestinske kolleger ordnet alt for oss, og vi ble invitert på flere middagsbesøk enn det vi hadde mulighet til å takke ja til. Da vi besøkte Hebron møtte vi en mann i gamlebyen (medlem av én av de tre gjenværende palestinske familiene i gamlebyen som ikke hadde latt seg drive ut av israelske bosettere) ble vi igjen invitert på et stort festmåltid som ble disket opp for oss på null komma niks.

Jeg husker vi lærte hvordan vi kunne se forskjellen på en palestinsk og en israelsk bosetning. Hvis bygningsmassen var av gråhvit betong med store vanntanker på taket, var det palestinere som bodde i dem. Landsbyene ligger oftere nederst i dalbunnen.

Nablus er en stor by og beliggende typisk i bunnen av en dal. Bygningsmassene består av billige hvit-grå betongblokker, og dersom en ser nøye etter kan man såvidt syne radene av svarte (av og til hvite) vanntanker på taket av hver bygning.

Derimot kontrollerte de israelske bosetningene høyden da de som regel er bygget på toppen av koller i det kuperte terrenget. De er kjennetegnet av hvite hus, røde takstein og ryddige rader av rekkehus. Det er ingen vanntanker på taket, da bosetterne har en veldig stabil tilførsel av vann, i motsetning til sine palestinske «naboer», som kan forvente sin vanntilførsel kuttet flere ganger i uken (noe som skjedde gjentatte ganger med våre palestinske kolleger og med-deltakere i Nablus) da denne styres fra Israelsk side.

Jeg savner som alle andre folkene der nede, men også stemningen, gjestfriheten og den avslappede holdningen. Livet og fargene og lydene og luktene fra de flotte markedene har brent seg fast i hukommelsen min.

Hva var din favorittutflukt, og hvorfor?

Jeg likte veldig godt utflukten til Jerusalem. I tillegg til at det er en fantastisk vakker by der hver krik og krok, gate og smug forteller en egen historie, fikk være vitne til den dagsaktuelle «historien» da det var uroligheter i byen i forbindelse med at Al-Aqsa-moskeen, som er muslimenes tredje viktigste moské, ble stengt under fredagsbønnen. Vi fikk føle konflikten og urettferdigheten på nært hold, i tillegg til at vi så hvordan mediene dramatiserte det hele gjennom vinklingen på kameraet. For det meste gikk det rolig for seg, og vi følte oss aldri utrygge. Dessuten ble vi invitert med hjem på middag til familien til en av deltakerne, og kunne følge resten av hendelsene derfra 🙂
