Nå er ti norske medisinstudenter på plass i Nablus, Palestina. Her skal vi gjennomføre prosjektet NorPal-Sawa, som er et samarbeidsprosjekt mellom norske og palestinske medisinstudenter. Temaet for årets prosjekt er tilgang på helsehjelp, og har blitt valgt på bakgrunn av WHOs rapporter om hvordan grenseoverganger og visumplikt hindrer palestinerne i å få livsnødvendig helsehjelp.

Vi skal i løpet av oppholdet tilbringe to uker på tre ulike sykehus her i Nablus, der vi får hospitere på ulike avdelinger og i akuttmottaket. I de påfølgende to ukene skal vi gjennomføre et førstehjelpskurs for palestinsk ungdom i Balata flyktningleir.

Målet med prosjektet er å engasjere fremtidige leger i spørsmål om helsehjelp i konfliktområder. Videre er målet å sette fokus på palestinernes manglende tilgang til fullverdig helsehjelp, og øke kunnskapen om førstehjelp blant palestinsk ungdom.

Prosjektet er underlangt Norsk medisinstudentforening (Nmf) og har i år fått økonomisk støtte fra Den norske legeforening, Nmf og Tromsøfondet. NorPal-Sawa ble arrangert for første gang i 2011, og det er i år fjerde gang prosjektet gjennomføres.
